Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of management control systems on financial performance of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The management control system is measured through four dimensions: diagnostic control system, interactive control system, beliefs system, and boundary system. Financial performance is measured using Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Net Profit Margin (NPM). This study uses quantitative research methods with a sample of 120 manufacturing companies listed on the IDX during the period 2020-2023. Data collection used purposive sampling technique with criteria of companies that consistently publish complete financial statements during the research period. Data analysis used multiple linear regression with SPSS 26.0. The results show that management control systems have a significant positive effect on financial performance. The diagnostic control system has the strongest influence on ROA (β=0.445, p<0.01), while the interactive control system significantly affects ROE (β=0.382, p<0.05). The beliefs system and boundary system also show positive effects on overall financial performance. This research contributes to management control theory and provides practical implications for managers in designing effective control systems to improve company financial performance. The findings suggest that companies should implement comprehensive management control systems that balance formal controls with cultural and behavioral aspects to achieve optimal financial performance.
